In the Bag – with Cade Jeanes

While there's nothing quite as exciting as getting shiny, new clubs as a golfer, a close second may very well be getting a new golf bag.

The blank canvas of each pocket elicits an unparalleled joy of possibilities of what to pack, how to organize, and how much better things will be. The hope of a better game is sewn right into every bag. And every golfer has his or her own unique way to pack and prep.

For Cade Jeans - retail associate at 5 Under and avid golfer - a good golf bag offers reliability when he needs it the most under the hot Texas sun. This is what's in the bag for Cade Jeans...

Cade played junior and high school golf in Southeast Texas at Hardin - Jefferson High School. After playing for Jacksonville Junior College, Cade joined the 5 Under Golf Center staff where he works in the pro shop. Cade is able to offer valuable insight to golfers of all levels, and it's easy to see his passion for the game as he fields questions from customers regarding the latest equipment, golf balls spin rates, launch and velocity, and other nuances of the game.

Cade works hard to help golfers get fitted for clubs, help coach kids clinics, and represent 5U at tournaments and events. If you're looking for advice on what makes a great golf bag this is your guy...

Cade

uses a classic Titleist stand bag. He walks the course as much as he rides in the cart, so the Titleist stand bag gives him flexibility to pick up and go for a long, hot 18 holes when he needs.

Cade plays Srixon ZX7 MKII irons along with a Bettinardi BB-1 putter. For his go-to wedge, he likes the RTX Tour Rack from Cleveland.

His Taylormade Stealth Plus 15 and 9.0 help round out the front of his bag. Cade hits Srixon Z-Star golf balls and prefers wooden tees. Putting is a focus of Cade’s game these days, so he keeps a putting mirror in his bag at all times.

He doesn’t always have a preference of brand in a golf glove, but he’s quite loyal to his PING golf towel.

Cade packs a torque wrench and Apple Air Pods in the side pouches for quick and easy access on the course.

He likes to organize his tees and ball markers by color. He’s not superstitious, but says it’s a habit he’s had since his freshman year of high school, and just kept it going ever since.

“The irons in my bag are Srixons…I started playing them about 5 or 6 months ago and I like the balanced feel and the forgiveness in the club,” Cade says. “I tend to hit off the toe too much, so I find the MKII’s sweet spot extends a bit more for me as an advantage.”

Cade has routinely played courses throughout Houston and East Texas, and among his favorites are Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Bearkat Course in Hunstville, and Idylwild.

His favorite part of golf is smoking a long, straight drive down a narrow fairway. Sinking a good putt or chipping in from 20 feet out is fun, but bombing one off the tee box in close quarters? It doesn’t get much better than that!
