We've spent decades in pursuit of the best-feeling Irons possible. i-FORGED, or Impact Forged, is our latest step in that journey. It's an array of our greatest innovations in Iron metallurgy to date, cementing our worldwide leadership as forging technologists.
Ideal Steel
What's the softest steel we've ever used to make an Iron? S15C, which makes ZXi7 7% softer. ZXi5 and ZXiU face plates are also 14% now features the softer SUS17-47 for its body material.
Condense Forging
Using softer steels enhances ZXi feel. But strength matters, too. To deliver both, we use condense forging. Here's how it works:
The hydraulic dies which forge red-hot billets into ZXi irons imprint an array of raised features onto each rough Iron shape. A second forge condenses those protrusions back into the clubhead, placing strength in those precise locations without sacrificing overall feel.
Heat Softening
Because condensed forging adds localized strength right where we need it, we have the freedom to re-optimize the temperature of our heat-treating ovens and product our softest treatments yet.
